Company Story
It all started one summer when I was seven years old. My Grandfather was teaching me how to use a wood plane in his shop. After starting on a board he took the plane away and said, “Now finish the job”. At first, I wondered how, then he said; “You might not always have access to a shop with three of every tool in it. You must learn to improvise with what you have”. When I pulled out my pocketknife, he approved.
Throughout the summers, I helped him with jobs, such as fixing and building various projects to clearing land on his properties. “Do it right or not at all” was the motto of all our jobs and learning to improvise was the common thread.
After moving to the North Shore, putting my tools in the back of my truck and hiring myself out as a Handyman, one customer suggested using the slogan “No stress, no mess”. That slogan has become a mainstay of the service.
After a number of years as a regular customer at the Home Hardware store on West 1st. in North Vancouver, some of the staff started referring customers to me. After hearing multiple horror stories from customers about other handymen taking advantage of them, I decided to try to change people’s perception by offering an honest and trustworthy service. Keeping family values and quality in the forefront of every job created many repeat customers and referrals to the point where appointments for October where being booked in July. At this point, the need for a quality service based on integrity and caring seemed inevitable, so with the help of Home Hardware, we started the Homepro Handyman Service in September 1999.
Opening day we received six job calls, which were all fulfilled, and the first one done free of charge to a personal repeat customer. The first crew consisted of eleven tradesmen, ranging from professional carpenters to basic labourers. The service is now to the point where repeat customers equal new ones.
Currently the service stands strong with over fifty hand picked tradesmen with over 15 years experience and over fifty specialty companies, offering a three year guarantee, with as little as a fifteen minute job response turnaround that excels the service above the competition. We use North Shore tradesmen, and have become members of the Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau.
Since 2005 our only advertising -this website- and our repeat customers keeps us busy.
As the service grew, the office relocated to the central Lonsdale area in North Vancouver at the end of May 2001. On October 1, 2001 the opportunity presented itself, and our second location in West Vancouver opened to allow better service representation in both districts, as it is a “neighbourhood” service.
Due to honesty, integrity and quality workmanship, Homepro Handyman Service is well on it’s way to becoming the best Handyman service available.
